This leads to an unsuccessful impeachment from concerned members of parliament. The lights are firmly on the arbitrary behavior of the Supreme Court.

Remembering the recent protest by the four judges, the CJI opens the doors to Supreme Court at midnight, up to 3.20 am, for Karnataka, following the principal of, “You must not just be fair, in all matters, you must also clearly appear to be fair”. Now, with the lights unblinkingly on them, three judges, surrounded by senior lawyers, look at the actions of the Governor. With this level of intense scrutiny, the Governor is found wanting. They ruled that 15 days for a floor test is a sly mockery of his power. The time is reduced to 28 hours. The Governor is effectively dethroned, he falls off his horse.

Without the Governor’s 15 days, and another possible cunning, and prejudiced, orders and rulings, the BJP-RSS try their hardest to buy and intimidate defections, to be manifest in abstentions. But the Congress and JDS, knowing they need to hold on to their flock for only 28 hours, rise to the occasion. For want of the Governor and his biased rulings, the battle of the floor test is lost.

The Congress and the JDS can rule for 5 years, and as Siddaramaiah of the Congress is the only one in the last 40 years to have run the state for a full 5-year term, it’s possible once again. Meanwhile, regional parties all over India are watching the muscular and filthy rich electoral machinery of the BJP crumble. Calls for the RSS governor’s resignation reverberate across the country. Maybe, India is lost too.

SO A KINGDOM IS LOST… ALL FOR THE WANT OF A HORSESHOE NAIL… Which brings us back to the four judges and their protest at the arbitrary attitude of the chief justice. One of them has already retired, the gentleman pointing at the Supreme Court in the picture, and the others too will retire in the future. But their contribution to justice in India is immense. For one, Karnataka itself may not have been won if it hadn’t been for their protest…
