Happy to announce Our India Bureau Chief is joining the prestigious Symbiosis Pune
From the Desk of Adam Rizvi,
Editor in Chief & Publisher,
The India Observer
I have worked closely with Dr. Shirin Abbas for the past several months. Her growth as the Bureau Chief of The India Observer, a USA based e-publication has been very impressive, she gave her dedication, upheld tireless work commitment ethics– writing, reporting, interviewing, editing –following instructions, implementing different ways stories are written, acing the use of digital technology– photos and video clippings too have been beautifully captured through her lens. She has a great style of co-conduction herself, excelling at time management. She thought nothing of flying at a very short notice to Delhi to interview Shobha Tharoor Srinivasan as also catching up with Salman Khurshid for his book on Triple Talaq. Her introduction of columns like Interface and Diaspora has been an amazing value addition to TIOs bouquet of offerings.
What impressed me most was her leadership role. It takes a special teacher to inspire her students and she had that quality of a true Chief. She mentored many and nurtured her students; the evolution of student journalists in TIO has been thorough and increasingly sophisticated in the digital phase under her watch.
It gives me immense honor and pleasure in congratulating our Bureau Chief (India) Dr. Shirin Abbas who has just joined India’s premier academic institution, Symbiosis International University, Pune, at their Centre of Media and Communication as Associate Professor.
Though her responsibilities have increased, she has reiterated that her commitment to,” The India Observer”, remains unchanged. For her, it is not a job but a mission to continue to uphold the ethics of journalism. Her personal attachment with the TIO family is a bond for life, and she will continue her work for the same, pro bono.
She will thus retain her title, which she had earned, as “Bureau Chief”, of TIO and continue her contribution to the same. She will however, now, focus more on her students, special stories and interviews and also steer the new TIO Teen section which is to debut soon, to encourage young writers from the US, India and other parts of the world and give them a chance to express their opinion on happenings around the world and their impact on young adults.
On behalf of TIO I look forward to Dr. Abbas’ contributions to TIO and congratulate her on her passion for teaching and on this very noble new assignment.
I personally and on behalf of TIO, wish her the very best
Sincerely,
Adam Rizvi
