Telangana preps up for differently-abled friendly election
Around five lakh physically challenged voters are been recognized in Telangana, which will go to polls in a single phase on December 7.
Copy Edited By Adam Rizvi HYDERABAD: In a bid to ensure a maximum number of participants of voters with disabilities in the upcoming state Assembly polls in Telangana, differently-abled voters are being provided facilities like Braille electoral photo identity cards (EPIC) and free transportation among others in the state.
Speaking about the initiative, Disabled Welfare Department (DWD) Commissioner B Sailaja told ANI, “This is for the first time in India that these Braille EPIC cards issued to visually impaired voters. Ramps are also arranged at every polling stations for differently-abled voters. Free transportation is also being provided to Persons with Disability (PwDs). We are also training volunteers for that.”
Telangana Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat has also decided to arrange a wheelchair and one assistant to support the differently-abled voters at every booth.
