Edison Democratic Club launched for Community Engagement in Politics
Adam Rizvi, TIO: The Edison Democratic Organization (EDO) has announced the launch of Edison Democratic Club (EDC) for creating political awareness and engagement at a local level in Edison NJ. The kickoff event was held today on April 9, 2019, at Pines Manor, Edison NJ at 7.30 PM.
This was a meet and greet a gathering of the community to mix mingle and understand.

There were Sr. dedicated democratic leaders Council member Hon. Ajay Patil, Vice President Edison Township Council, Former Mayor of Edison Hon. Antoni Riciglianoo, Assemblyman Hon. Robert J Karabinchak, Assemblywoman Hon. Nancy J. Pinkin (D) with her chief of staff Robert Zuckerman and many others were present including the member of the young Democrat Rushd Syed, when asked how he feels about it, Rushd said, “this is a great kickoff event, the president Suchitra is awesome, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, I am enjoying meeting everyone here”.

The club will conduct informal as well as formal sessions on how the community can be more involved in the local politics and directly or indirectly contribute to the township governance.
The EDC will meet the Edison residents on a regular basis and collect issues that concern them. The residents will also be trained on how they can become more actively engaged in politics and elections as well as canvassing/campaigning.

The EDO chair Shariq Ahmad said, “ The Democratic Club will allow for anybody in the township who wants to get involved in the process and who wants to find a way to have their voice heard locally”.
“Edison is a large town with six zip codes and three area codes and political awareness created at this scale is bound to have upwards cascading impact,” says Suchitra Kamath, the EDC president.

Suchitra adds that “The town has great potential and we will be reaching out and tapping the general public at large to create awareness about having an active voice as well get their support and contribution towards the county and state governance “

The Edison Democratic Club is primarily for unelected people and is open to all residents of the township. The club will run under the supervision of the Edison Democratic Organization and its chair- ShariqAhmad who says that “The club will give a forum to really advocate for things that people believe in and will hopefully expand the Democratic Party and give people more representation.

Edison Township has over 59,000 registered voters and only 67% cast their ballots in the 2016 electionsEdisonDemocratic Club launched for Community Engagement in Politics.
One of the goals of the EDC is to bridge this gap and help citizens come out and vote in an informed way.
