Indian-American Sikh elected mayor of Anaheim city in California
Anaheim: An Indian-American businessman Harry Singh Sidhu has been elected as a mayor of Anaheim which is one of the largest cities in the state of California.
Bizman Harry Singh Sidhu would be the first Sikh mayor of the city.
In the November 6 mid-term elections, Harry defeated Ashleigh Aitken.
For eight years from 2002 to 2012, Harry served as a member of the Anaheim City Council.
After his electoral victory, Harry said, “I am honoured and thrilled to lead the charge in unifying our city once again.”
Sidhu was born in India but later in 1974 moved to the US along with his parents as a permanent resident and settled in Philadelphia.
Once sworn in, Harry Singh Sidhu will be one of the few Sikh mayors in the USA, which includes Mayor Preet Didbal of Yuba City and Mayor Ravinder Singh Bhalla of Hoboken.
Director of Public Policy for National Sikh Campaign, Jas Sajjan said, “It is exciting to see a Sikh become mayor of such a large and diverse city.”
