NIA Uncovers ‘ISIS-Linked’ Outfit’s Plot to Attack Delhi

Officials said the suspects were planning to attack “vital installations” in the national capital and UP around Republic Day.

New Delhi, Dec 26, 2018: The National Investigation Agency on Wednesday arrested five persons and detained another five as it raided 16 locations across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in connection with its probe into a new module of terror group ISIS.

The group called “Harkat-ul Harb-e-Islam” is allegedly linked to the ISIS and the raids, conducted with the help of UP and Delhi Police, were mainly focused in Amroha in north-western UP, officials have revealed.

According to preliminary information, one Maulvi at a mosque in Amroha and a third-year civil engineering student have emerged as the prime suspects behind the new module.

Officials said they were planning to attack “vital installations” in the national capital and in UP ahead of Republic Day celebrations next month. During the raids, explosives like Ammonium Nitrate and pistols were recovered.

It is not yet clear if those raided were directly affiliated to the ISIS, which aims to build an Islamic caliphate, or were inspired by its ideology.

Earlier this month, the investigating agency had also arrested seven men in Tamil Nadu after finding incriminating evidence linking them with Iraq and Syria-based terrorist outfit.
