By Adam Rizvi, New Jersey, TIO: President Trump and Joe Biden both commemorated Friday’s 19th anniversary of 9/11 by visiting the rural Pennsylvania field where Flight 93 crashed — though, the bitter political rivals managed to avoid crossing paths.
Trump showed up first at the memorial wall in Shanksville to deliver a morning speech before family members of the Flight 93 victims.
He hailed the 40 passengers as “true heroes” for storming into the cockpit on Sept. 11, 2001, retaking control of the aircraft and quashing the terrorists’ plans to destroy the U.S. Capitol by instead purposely crashing the plane into the desolate Shanksville field, killing everyone on board.

“When terrorists raced to destroy the seat of our democracy, the 40 of Flight 93 did the most American of things: They took a vote and then they acted,” Trump said from a stage. “Together, they charged the cockpit, they confronted pure evil and in their last act on this Earth, they saved our capital.”

The Democratic presidential candidate, who had spent the morning at the Ground Zero memorial ceremony in downtown Manhattan, didn’t deliver a formal speech from a podium.
Instead, he laid a wreath of white flowers at the memorial before speaking with assembled family members in person.

“Don’t ever, don’t ever underestimate one of the marks of being an American is understanding there are some things that are bigger and more important than yourself,” said Biden, who wore a black face mask for the entire visit.
After the memorial service, Biden rode by motorcade a couple of miles away to a local fire station.

As he stepped out of the car, a firefighter asked where the beer was, noting that the former vice president had promised to bring some.
Biden promptly returned to his SUV, popped the trunk, and retrieved two six-packs of Bud Light and Iron City Beer.
“I keep my promises!” Biden said with a laugh.
Contrary to Trump, attendees wore face masks and sat at least six feet apart for the speech, a grim reminder of the pandemic struggles to underpin this year’s commemoration ceremonies.
After his speech, Trump and his wife laid a wreath at the memorial wall, which lists the names of the 40 passengers, before heading out.
A few hours later, Biden and his wife showed up — just as the Trumps got back to the White House.
